Bhagavan Buddha and Our Heritage, by Swami Ranganathananda

Bhagavan Buddha and Our Heritage

What’s the relationship between Buddhism and Vedanta? This small booklet by the late Swami Ranganathananda, a former president of the Ramakrishna Mission, outlines the connection and gives much food for thought. It doesn’t take long to read, but it leaves a lasting impression.

It is based on his speech at the celebration of the 2500th birthday of the Buddha, and it was part of the inspiration for the essay, “Just Call Me Buddhist.”

    Along with this book by the Revered Swami Ranganathanandaji Maharaj, the thirteenth President of the Ramakrishna Order (Math and Mission at Belur Math, http://www.belurmath.org),one should read the speeches on Lord Buddha by Swami Vivekananda,in his complete works, by listening such scholastic speeches of originality, listeners used to ask Swamiji (Vivekananda), ‘Swamiji,are you a Buddhist’ ? In his early days, in the childhood, in his own room,he had a perfect vision of The Lord Buddha, in the later years also,he was imtimately in meditation and contemplation in The Lord Buddha.
    Swami Ranganathanandaji Maharaj was a speaker by the divine right, when he was in the schooling days, his mother blessed him with the word,let Mother Goddess of Learning (Swaraswati) live in your tongue.
    He was really so, the present writer of this post, had the golden chance to listen his speech.Yes, the Hindus consider the Lord Buddha, as one of the most important incarnation in the Hinduism.Lord Buddha was a highly analytical/psycological Saint-God who wanted to enjoy the Upanisadic Truth in a nonconformist mode, though he did tell and propagate his pure resolutions which was really within the science of Vedanta, for nothing can be outside Vedanta, however one tries to invent
    new ways a routes to the TRUTH, for Vedanta is the Science of Possibility; cultivation of spirituality is ever in the fact finding in Vedanta alone.If peace is the final station,if bliss is the final station,in the freedom concept in the human thinking/acting/performing, Vedanta is the only SKY to Fly-in.

    “Buddha is the name of infinite knowledge,
    infinite as the sky;I, Gautama,have reached that state;
    you will all reach that too if you struggle for it.”
