Franny and Zooey, by J.D. Salinger

Franny and Zooey

J.D. Salinger was profoundly influenced by Vedanta and his friendship with Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center of New York founder, Swami Nikhilananda.

Salinger biographer Kenneth Slawenski gently implies that Salinger’s interest in Vedanta might even have been why he stopped writing for publication; reclusing was a way Salinger could cut down his own ego.

Salinger tried writing about Vedanta as part of his book, Nine Stories. But perhaps his fullest attempt at communicating Vedanta via literature was with Franny and Zooey, which Slawenski at least has said is definitely Vedanta-inspired.

If you are looking for a way to focus on Vedanta through fiction, check out Franny and Zooey.
