Rule of Saint Benedict, by Saint Benedict

The Rule of Saint Benedict

St. Benedict’s rules of obedience, humility, and contemplation are not only prerequisites for many religious societies, they also provide an invaluable model for anyone desiring to live more simply. While they presuppose a certain detachment from the world, they provide guidance and inspiration for anyone seeking peace and fulfillment in their home and work communities.

Composed nearly fifteen hundred years ago by the father of Western monasticism, The Rule of St. Benedict has for centuries been the guide of religious communities. -Adapted from the publisher

Freedom comes from detachment, detachment comes from obedience, that is, total surrender to the Will of the Lord, surrender comes
    from the simplicity.
Sree Ramakrishna reminded, every moment, the requirement of simplicity.
Swamiji (Swami Vivekananda) advocated for the Ramakrishna Order members,’Freedom and Obedience’ ,as the core character in the Order.
Obviously, the said book above,is available as a great foot steps to cultivate such a required discipline in the monastic order of immense value.
